Background of the Study
Trauma care is a complex and dynamic field that requires rapid assessment, intervention, and continuous care. Nurses play an integral role in trauma care teams, assisting with initial assessments, administering medications, providing wound care, and supporting patient recovery throughout the trauma care continuum (Adeyemi & Olorunfemi, 2024). In trauma care, the swift and efficient delivery of services is crucial for improving patient outcomes and reducing the risk of complications (Dike & Aliyu, 2023).
At Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto, trauma cases are common, and nurses are frequently the first to respond to injured patients. While the importance of timely and coordinated trauma care is well-documented, there is limited research on the specific impact that nurses’ involvement in trauma care has on patient recovery rates. This study seeks to evaluate how the involvement of nurses in trauma care affects patient recovery outcomes at Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto.
Statement of the Problem
Nurses are essential to the multidisciplinary trauma care team, yet their direct impact on patient recovery in trauma situations remains inadequately explored. Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto sees a significant number of trauma patients, but it is unclear whether the level of nurse involvement in trauma care directly influences recovery rates. Understanding this relationship is important for improving trauma care strategies and outcomes.
This study will assess the extent of nurses’ involvement in trauma care and its correlation with patient recovery rates.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the effect of nurses’ involvement in trauma care on patient recovery rates at Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto.
2. To identify the specific roles of nurses in the trauma care process and their impact on recovery outcomes.
3. To recommend strategies for improving nurses’ participation in trauma care to enhance patient recovery.
Research Questions
1. How does nurses’ involvement in trauma care impact patient recovery rates at Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto?
2. What specific roles do nurses play in trauma care, and how do these roles influence recovery outcomes?
3. How can the involvement of nurses in trauma care be improved to enhance patient recovery?
Research Hypotheses
1. Increased nurse involvement in trauma care improves patient recovery rates at Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto.
2. Nurses' roles in trauma care, such as pain management and wound care, significantly impact recovery outcomes.
3. Improving training and resource allocation for nurses enhances their effectiveness in trauma care and improves patient recovery rates.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on trauma patients at Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto, and the involvement of nurses in their recovery. It will not cover other medical conditions or hospitals. Limitations may include difficulty isolating nurses' contributions from other factors affecting recovery rates, such as physician interventions or patient health conditions.
